The Embassy of Denmark in Cairo is looking for three new academic staff. Political Officer, Economic Officer, Migration and Development Officer.

These three new officers will help the embassy implement the recent Strategic Partnership between Egypt and Denmark, the Danish government’s Africa strategy, the government’s Action Plan for Economic Diplomacy and follow and support the implementation of the newly established migration programmes which are being managed from Copenhagen. The successful candidates can there-fore expect an exciting array of different tasks spanning the political, economic and geopolitical spectrum, with some ability to shape the contours of these roles.  

We are looking for candidates who are proactive team players, who can conduct research and analysis, work independently with external stakeholders, and who can understand and tailor their output to the wide range of audiences that we serve. 

The successful candidates will join one of two fun and diverse teams in the Embassy. The Political and the Migration and Development Officers will join the Political Team with four other members: The Political Counsellor (Team Leader), Political and Media Officer, Cultural and Public Diplomacy Officer, and an intern. The Economic Officer will join the Geopolitics & Trade Team with four other members: Economic Counsellor (Team Leader), Head of Trade, Assistant Trade Advisor, and an intern. We value team work, trust and honesty, a flat hierarchy, and open lines of communication across and between the teams. To deliver on the ambitious strategies, close cooperation across the fields of politics, geopolitics, migration, and trade is crucial. The successful candidates must there-fore be able to nurture good relations both within the team and with others in and outside the Embassy. In return, there will be ample opportunity to shape own tasks and explore all aspects of mod-ern diplomacy.

Main tasks and responsibilities 
• Conduct research on political issues, migration, economic, or geopolitical developments.
• Draft internal and external analyses, reports, briefings, cables, flash news, etc.
• Administration of development projects (Migration and Development Officer only). 
• Maintain and expand the Embassy’s professional network.
• Attend meetings and conferences in Egypt and Denmark.

Minimum qualifications
• Professional, results-oriented, and a good team player.
• Solid analytical and research skills.
• Excellent writing skills.
• A Master’s Degree in a relevant field of study.
• Fluency in English and Arabic (Arabic not required for Political Officer).
• Knowledge of Egyptian society and politics.  
• Essential computer skills, including MS Office.
• At least 5 years’ work experience with the Egyptian economy at an embassy, government agency, international organisation, or research organisation (Economic Officer only).
• At least 5 years’ work experience with migration at an embassy or international organisation and deep understanding of development assistance administration (Migration and Develop-ment Officer only). 
• At least 1-3 years’ work experience with Danish authorities or organisations and proficiency in Danish or another Scandinavian language (Political Officer only)

Desired qualifications
• 7-10 years of prior experience in a relevant field (Economic and Migration and Development Officers only).
• Knowledge of Danish society, politics, and economics. 
• Knowledge of regional economies and politics.
• Knowledge of climate change, renewable energy and energy transition.
• Experience with development grants and projects (Migration and Development Officer on-ly).
• Experience with public-private partnerships, blended financing, or other business-oriented development tools, and knowledge of financing institutions (Economic Officer only). 
• Scandinavian language skills.

Employment conditions
The Embassy offers attractive and flexible working conditions and a competitive salary package:
• You will be employed on a contract with no upper limit on weekly working hours, but with a large degree of flexibility in organising your daily working hours.
• You will be entitled to annual paid holiday as per legally binding labour market rules of Egypt and the Embassy’s staff rules.
• You will be offered reasonable coverage of sickness expenses.
• Your salary will be within the Embassy’s salary policy based on your qualifications and relevant experience. Your salary will include a workplace pension scheme.
• Fixed-term contract for a period of two years with the possibility of extension.

Selected candidates will be invited for a written test, and interviews are expected to take place in mid/end-November. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The expected start date will be as soon as possible, subject to security clearance.

The chosen candidate must present a “No Criminal Record” certificate and pass security clearance by the Danish authorities prior to appointment.
